3rd Grade Lesson 14 Spelling Words Vowel + r sounds

Vowel + r sounds The vowels have a different sound when the letter “r” comes after the vowel. o + r = or, like the word or a + r = r, like the name of the letter “r” er, ir, ur = er, like the sound at the end of the word “her” For example: cord- cart- shirt-

horse A horse is a beautiful animal.

mark The tennis ball on the chair makes it quieter, but it leaves a mark on the floor.

storm We went inside and down to the basement to stay safe during the storm.

market A market is a great place to buy fruits and vegetables.

acorn A squirrel is happiest when it has an acorn!

artist An artist is someone who creates art.

March March is the third month of the year, after February and before April.

north North is one of the four main directions on a compass.

barking It would not be a good idea to try to pet a barking dog.

stork This kind of bird is a stork.

thorn Falling on a plant that has thorns would not feel very good!
