AR-07-01 Doug Nebert, POC-elect GEO ADC Co-Chairs Meeting, USGS, Reston, VA, December 19-20, 2006 GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 1

AR-07-01 Task Name Old name: Proposed new names: “Interoperability Arrangements for GEOSS” Proposed new names: “Enabling Deployment of a GEOSS Architecture” “GEOSS Architectural Practices” “Principles of GEOSS Architecture” GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 2

AR-07-01: Description of Work (1) Enable the System of Systems Engineering activity to further elaborate the GEOSS architecture including development of practical use cases, that will be mainly derived from UIC input. Provide and update GEOSS strategic and tactical guidance documents (derived from AR-06-02) to GEO Members and Participating Organizations to promote understanding of the high level strategic and tactical approaches to GEOSS implementation. GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 3

AR-07-01: Description of Work (2) Provide and update guidelines on linkage of GEOSS components (derived from AR-06-03) and support of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) resources (derived from DA-06-06). Define and deploy core GEOSS registries. GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 4

AR-07-01: Description of Work (3) Implement and maintain the process for the Standards Interoperability Forum (AR-06-01) responsible for interoperability arrangements including special arrangements and standards. Prototype and validate the implementation of the “Core” GEOSS infrastructure (registries, Clearinghouse, Web Portal) and the processes for contributing and linking systems using the Interoperability Process Pilot Projects. GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 5

AR-07-01: Output & Deliverables Report of the support acitivity of committed components to link GEOSS architecture. Report of design GEOSS reference and functional architecture including practical use cases. Documentation on core registries design and interaction Reports on existing process and guidelines: Process for interoperability arrangements (AR-06-01) GEOSS Interoperability Strategic & Tactical Guidance (AR-06-02). GEOSS components consensus on linkage (AR-06-03) Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) (DA-06-06) GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 6

AR-07-01: Milestones Interoperability Process Pilot Projects completed and documented to assist architectural deployment April: Registries available May: Demonstration and documentation available June: First cycle complete Additional guidance on component/service linkage and integration published to promote uptake in support of SBAs and include Spatial Data Infrastructures March 2007 Tactical guidance document March 2007: Initial release July 2007: Final revision GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 7

Milestones Standards Interoperability Forum exercised in the processing of candidate techniques and standards May 2007 Use cases developed and published to promote a broader understanding of roles and capabilities of GEOSS architecture January 2007: Initial April 2007: UIC/SBA/Pilot inputs incorporated GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 8

AR-07-01: Draft Team Organization POC: Doug Nebert, U.S. Sherpa: Ivan DeLoatch Co-Leads: IEEE Japan U.S. CEOS … Many interested organizational reps… GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 9

AR-07-01: Relevant Tasks & Committees Obvious linkage with AR-07-02 – Clearinghouse and Portal deployment reifies the architectural principles AR-07-04 linkage Recommended GEOSS registered data schemas, formats, and related artefacts may need to be managed – outputs of DA-06-04 and DA-06-05 (data standards), DA-06-09 (best practices), AR-06-06/DA-07-01 (DEM standard practice) Many SBA tasks suggest implementation phase but not explicit support for the GEOSS architecture GEO ADC Co-Chair meeting USGS, Reston, Dec 19-20 2006 Slide # 10
