BASIC HUMAN NEEDS

Hierarchy of Needs

Physiological Needs Oxygen—highest priority S/Sx of deficit Confusion Must sit up to breathe Breathes more quickly and shallow Fatigues easily Color changes

Possible nursing actions Turn, cough, and deep breathe Control anxiety Plan activities to have adequate rest periods Administer Oxygen if circumstances warrant

Fluids The human body requires a balance between intake and output 2 conditions that indicate unmet fluid need dehydration edema

Always measure intake

Nutrition Nurse assesses : weight gain, unplanned weight loss, failure to grow, fatigue, pallor,recurring mouth and gum sores

Body temperature Normal range from 97-106. Out of this range can results in brain damage and death.

Waste products are eliminated by lungs, skin, kidneys, and intestines Elimination Waste products are eliminated by lungs, skin, kidneys, and intestines    

Amount of urine depends on fluid intake, kidney function, cardiac function, etc.
