HV-Cables Current standard product is RG-220/U like cables from Draka. Limited to max. 40kV (5.7dB/km @10MHz) Not compatible for CPS SF6 gas filled PFL cable replacement (80kV, 0.3 dB/km @10MHz) Several investigation threads: “Improved” RG220/U for up to 65kV (sample at CERN) standard attenuation Tests planned: partial discharge measurement TMWS vs. Draka 80kV SF6 gas filled cable replica 80kV low attenuation SF6 gas free cable for 80kV PFL cable replacement New low attenuation SF6 gas free cable for Tx applications ~40kV OTS Air insulated RF cables with liquid dielectric Connectors Alternative pulse generator concepts (IA, Marx, fast PFN) not covered here.

HV – Cables: SF6 gas filled replica. Goal Cable availability / PFL replacement / relax current design limitations. Timescale to possible deployment Short/Medium term (~6 mons to 1 year, window of opportunity) Gains w.r.t. present technology None – pure reengineering and production development. Possible deployment scope All CPS systems running on SF6 gas filled PFL, new systems. Ongoing activity domains - projects and present resource levels CONS (ACP-PS) Gas filled cable replacement. [0.1 Staff], 395kCHF, EDMS 1556025 Present status and outlook MS and PE without quotation, one potential supplier, new PE to be issued. Special machines needed for production currently available. Section Involvement BTP EC EDS X KSC PPE XXX SE

HV – Cables: SF6 gas free 80kV low attenuation cable. Goal Supress SF6 gas / cable availability / PFL replacement / relax current design limitations. Timescale to possible deployment Short/Medium term (~6 mons to 2 years) Gains w.r.t. present technology Suppress SF6 gas, Extend scope of PE extruded coaxial HV cables Up to 80kV Low attenuation Possible deployment scope CPS systems running on SF6 gas filled PFL, new (upgraded) systems Ongoing activity domains - projects and present resource levels LIU-PS inj. [~0.1 FELL, ~0.1 Staff] – 200 kCHF Present status and outlook PE closed without quotation. 1 potential supplier. Section Involvement BTP EC EDS (x) KSC X PPE XXX SE x

HV – Cables: New low attenuation coax 40kV. Goal Cable availability / PFL replacement / relax current design limitations Timescale to possible deployment Short/Medium term (~6 mons to 2 years) Gains w.r.t. present technology Low attenuation Replacement of SF6 Slightly higher operational voltage to be investigated Possible deployment scope All CPS systems, fast SPS systems Will be needed for SF6 Tx cable replacement for KFA-71/79 Ongoing activity domains - projects and present resource levels 1st discussions with potential supplier – no resources allocated – needed for prototyping Present status and outlook Project to be launched prototype to be specified with manufacturer Section Involvement BTP EC EDS (X) KSC X PPE XXX SE

HV – Cables: Air insulated RF cables with liquid dielectric. Goal Cable availability / PFL replacement / relax current design limitations Timescale to possible deployment Short term for all (~6 mons to 2 years) Gains w.r.t. present technology OTS components Suppresses SF6 Higher operational voltage and lower attenuation w.r.t. RG-220 expected Changeable dielectric behavior (different liquid, nanoparticles) Possible deployment scope CPS systems SF6 gas filled cable replacement. Ongoing activity domains - projects and present resource levels [~0.1 TECH, 0.05 STAFF] – no budget at present – negotiated free samples from RFS Present status and outlook Measurements planned (proof of principle) in coming weeks (using standard oil) Section Involvement BTP EC EDS X KSC PPE XXX SE

HV – Cables: Connectors. Goal Be able to use any of the potential cable developments Timescale to possible deployment Short term (~1 to 2 years) Gains w.r.t. present technology Suppress SF6 Higher Operational Voltage for non SF6 cables Possible deployment scope All systems Ongoing activity domains - projects and present resource levels [~0.5 TECH, 0.1 Staff] – no budget at present Present status and outlook Collecting requirements, setting up simulation environment Section Involvement BTP EC EDS Xx KSC X PPE XXX SE
