Hypocrite Noun Imposter; faker Abigail is a hypocrite because she calls herself a “child of God,” yet she clearly does the Devil’s work.               

Traduce Verb To speak ill of; to slander Neighbors began to traduce their friends just for another acre of land during the Salem Witch Trials.                

Amiable Adjective Friendly; likeable Giles Corey is an amiable person because he talks to everybody.                         

Extraneous Adjective Irrelevant; unrelated Giles’s extraneous account of not being able to pray when his wife was reading was enough to get her accused of witchcraft.                  

Exigency Noun Emergency; urgency Mr. Hale’s quick arrival seemed to be an exigency for the town of Salem; they needed him there immediately to cure the town of witches.
