Disdainful Adjective Definition: Scornful, disdain, bitter, disrespectful “And one disdainful suitor added this: ‘May his fortune grow and inch for every inch he bends it!’” One disdainful man couldn’t go along with the plan, because he disagreed and rudely protested.

Commandeer Verb Definition: to seize and boldly take by force “My lords, hear me: suitors indeed, you commandeered this house too feast and drink in, day and night, my husband being long gone, long out of mind” The pirates commandeered the boat when they saw the gold on it.

Adversity Noun Definition: misfortune, challenges and hardship “I bore adversities, but in the twentieth year I am ashore in my own land.” I accepted my adversities, when the pirates boarded the ship.

Lavished verb Definition: to expend or give in great amounts or without limit. “… just so, she lavished beauty over Odysseus’ head and shoulders.” During the feast, Tom lavished love over his over his family.

Restitution Noun Definition: reparation made by giving an equivalent or compensation for loss, damage, or injury caused; to pay back, make up for something “As for ourselves, we’ll make restitution of wine and meat consumed, and add, each one, a tithe of twenty oxen with gifts of bronze and cold to warm your heart. Meanwhile we cannot blame you for your anger.” Ill make restitution of all the things that were destroyed in the argument with Tom.

Revelry Noun Definition: merriment; festivity, a lively celebration “In that revelry amid his throng of friends who would imagine a single foe—though a strong foe indeed—could dare to bring death’s pain on him and darkness on his eyes?” The revelry from the house across the street could be heard from miles away.

Implacable Adjective Def: relentless; unstoppable; cannot be calmed or soothed Friends,” he said, “the man is implacable” On the lacrosse field during a championship my brother was implacable as there was only 2:00 minutes on the clock and they were tied. Johnny's implacable cry could not be soothed by his mother.

Revulsion Noun Definition: disgust for something Revulsion, anguish in his heart, with both feet kicking out, he downed his chair, while the shrouding wave of mist closed on his eyes. Bob displayed revulsion when he saw the putrefying creature that was rotting in the garbage can.

Aloof adjective Definition: at a distance, especially in feeling or interest “Who else in the world would keep aloof as you do from her husband if he returned to her from tears of trouble, cast on his own land in the twentieth year?” After the friends got in a fight last year they kept aloof and hang out with different friends now.

Tremulous Adjective Definition: trembling, as from fear, nervousness, or weakness “Their secret! As she heard it told, her knees grew tremulous and weak, her heart failed her.” Before she performed on stage her whole body became tremulous and she got a sick feeling in her stomach.
