A how-to guide for creating site mapping using the ERIP system ERIP Site Mapping A how-to guide for creating site mapping using the ERIP system

Site Mapping This presentation will guide you through the steps to complete your own maps for the site mapping section of the MO1Plan system.

Aerial Aerial photographs of the facility can be obtained a number of ways. Google Maps Google Earth Bing Maps Purchase from county or city Geographic Information System (GIS) service – usually affiliated with the assessor’s office

Floor Plans Floor plans can usually be obtained from the architect that built the school or from re-drawn maps used by Facilities. Maps must be accurate Should show room numbers Door swing directions Labeled exits

Taking Pictures It’s better to have too many pictures than not enough. Camera resolution – higher is not better Photo log – a description of each photo (direction facing, from room “x” to room “y”, etc.) Aerial & Floor Plan – mark your pictures on a paper copy What pictures to take? Entrances/Exits (Interior and Exterior) Hallways (Interior) Large areas/rooms (Interior) All sides of the facility (Exterior) Any trouble areas (Interior and Exterior) It’s better to have too many pictures than not enough.

Example of Site Mapping

Tactical Grid The system allows you to take the aerial photograph of your campus and overlay a grid. This is used by emergency responders for tactical purposes.

Creating Base Maps

The following icons are used in the base maps: These are the photo tags. The letter stands for where the picture was taken (E=Exterior, F=First Floor, S=Second Floor, T=Third Floor, B=Basement). The number in the tag stands for the order the pictures were taken in. The arrow shows which direction the photo is facing. This is the fire extinguisher tag. Place this on the floor plan where a fire extinguisher is located. This is the video surveillance camera tag. Place this on the floor plan where a video surveillance camera is located. These are the utility shut-off tags. Place these on the floor plan where the utility shut-offs are located. This is the Knox Box tag. A Knox Box is a small, wall-mounted safe that holds building keys for fire departments, EMS, and sometimes police to retrieve in emergency situations.

Exterior Base Maps

To complete the exterior base map, you need to first insert an aerial photograph of your campus. Make sure that the photo covers roads used for egress and ingress.

Next, place the photo tags in the spots where the photos were taken and attach the photos to the icons.

Once the photo tags are in place, your map is complete.

Security Camera Locations Now you can add the layers for Security Cameras, Utility Shutoffs, and Knox Box. Just drag and drop the icons in place. Security Camera Locations

Interior Base Maps

To complete the interior base map, you need to first insert the floor plan of your facility. Make sure that the floor plans are accurate.

Next, place your photo tags in the spots where the photos were taken.

When you click on the icon, you will see what the picture actually looks like.

Security Camera Locations Now you can start adding the layers for Security Cameras, Utility Shutoffs, and Fire Extinguishers. Security Camera Locations
