Friction.
Why does the box stop? F=MA.
The force that slows the ball to a stop is FRICTION.
What is Friction?/Lesson 6
Physical Science motion and force. Objectives: –Explain the effects of unbalanced forces on the motion of objects –Compare and contrast static and kinetic.
Friction: Page 83 QUESTION: When would you want to create friction? OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to name and give everyday examples of the four types.
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious... It is the source of all true art and all science." - Einstein.
FRICTION!.
Friction When two surfaces rub together, the irregularities of one surface The force that one surface exerts on another Friction acts in a direction.
Section 2-3 Connecting Motion with Forces
Friction - Friction - is a force that resists the motion of objects on surfaces. Jennifer Brown.
Friction The forces that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other is called friction. The strength of the force of friction depends.
Force Problems involving Friction. What is Friction?  It is a force that opposes motion.  Friction is caused by the contact (rubbing) of 2 surfaces.

FRICTION. Friction A force that acts in a direction opposite to the motion Will cause a moving object to slow down and finally stop.
4.3 Solving Friction Problems
Friction Two or more objects in contact moving past each other will slow each other down. The force which causes them to slow down is friction. Friction:
 Describe how forces act upon objects and create motion  Describe how friction influences the motion  Explain the different types of friction  Explain.
Ch 10.3 Forces Force: action on an object to change state of rest or motion (accelerate) (push or pull on object … “baby”answer) Objects change motion.
C. Friction Friction  force that opposes motion between 2 surfaces  depends on the: types of surfaces force between the surfaces.
Chapter 3.3 Friction. Question #1 Friction is resistance force. Friction is defined as the force that opposes the sliding or rolling motion of two surfaces.

PLEASE TAKE OUT YOUR HOMEWORK. Friction - a force that opposes motion, or “pushes back” when two surfaces are touching. It’s always around and it affects.

Forces. Effects of forces Forces can cause diverse effects on objects: – They make things start to move. – They make things stop. – They disfigure things.
Friction The force that opposes motion Depends on: Type of surface (material) Type of surface (material) Mass of object Mass of object.

What is it? The force that slows motion between two surfaces that are in contact with each other.

Real life examples A baseball player diving into home plate. Tires on a car can roll freely Tennis shoes on the stairs versus slippers

Pros and cons Pros Cons 1. 2. 3. 4.

Sliding Friction When two solid surfaces slide against each other.

Rolling Friction When a circular object rolls freely over a surface.

Static Friction A force that stops the movement of two objects that are against each other and at rest.
