Attending school regularly is very important and key to achieving success. We look forward to having our students here each day and working with them and in collaboration with you. Please let us know in advance if your child will be absent.
More information available on the school website or ASD-S website
Attendance Policy Participation in school sports teams or in clubs/groups requires regular attendance at school. Please provide your child with a written excuse or please send an e-mail if they have been or will be absent from school (sick, appointment, etc.) For unexcused Absences: At 5 days absent the homeroom teacher will call you to let them know At 10 days, the teacher will call again and a letter will be sent home from the school administration. At 15 days a meeting will be held to determine how we can help
Allergies & Medical Info Scent free, Nut free (Peanuts and Tree nuts) for all students and staff at school Please ensure that if your child has an allergy or medical condition that requires specific treatments or protocol to be followed in case of emergency, then we require Emergency Medical/Essential Routine Policy 704 forms to be completed. Please discuss this with your child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you for your assistance.
Signing students in and out Please note the sign in/sign out book on the main counter in the office When leaving, please come into the school to sign out your child. You will need to use the intercom at the main doors to have it opened by our administrative assistant. When the students are arriving late, or after an appointment, or are returning to school after one, they must come to the office to sign in. A parent does not have to come in with them at that time. For sports’ games that require an early dismissal, please make sure all communication is made to indicate who they will be travelling with to the game. Thank you in advance.
Morning Routine Supervision begins at 8:05 a.m. and the doors will be unlocked at 8:05 a.m. allowing students to enter. Students remain in the lobby area until the bell at 8:25. Please note that the main doors will be locked following the arrival of the last bus. We would ask that cars not enter the roundabout between 7:45-8:30 a.m. and 2:45-3:30 p.m. due to buses and congestion in these areas at these times. Students can be dropped off on Scott Ave by the path or by the Rothesay Arena.
Electronic Devices We ask that all electronic devices (phones, tablets, ipods) are locked in their lockers during class time (instructional times). At break and noon, games may be played on the phones or ipods, or students can listen to music with headphones Lost or stolen items are not the responsibility of the school. We would ask that you refrain from texting/calling your child’s phone. Please call the school and we will give them a message (849-5515) or allow them to come to the office to talk to you. Students are not to take pictures at school, particularly of other students.
Noon Hours Only students who walk to school may leave the grounds at lunch if they have the proper forms signed and returned to the office. Lunch is 50 minutes – time to eat for 25 minutes and then students go out for 25 minutes or choose an indoor activity
Dress code For shorts and skirts we ask that they are the length of the student’s middle finger as an easy guide Tank tops follow the lasagna noodle rule (3 fingers wide) Tops need to be long enough to cover and not be cropped tops
