People were still very racist then at that time this speech was said. The KKK was still very popular to during this time.

What the speech revolves around Set in Canton, Mississippi, the film revolves around the rape of a young girl and the arrest of the rapists and their subsequent murder by the girl's father, Carl Lee Hailey. The remainder of the film then focuses on the trial of Carl Lee Hailey for murder

Why was the speech giving This speech was giving because the farther that had the little girl she got rape by some white guys, is the one of the main points. The other main point is that Carl Lee Hailey, which is the farther of the little girl, he killed all the white guys because they raped his little girl he shot them.

Summary of the speech The speech is about trying to prove that they should send Carl Lee Hailey to jail because he shot the white guys. Matthew McConaughey is his lawyer because Carl Lee Hailey does own up to killing them but wouldn’t you have did the same thing if some guys raped your 10-year old daughter? Matthew McConaughey is also telling the jury the man had every right to be angry with the white guys that raped his 10-year old daughter anyone that is put in the situation would be very angry with the men.

What’s going on while the speech is taking place. While Matthew McConaughey is trying to get Carl Lee Hailey away from prison for life for the murder of the white guys that raped and nearly beat his little girl. There is hundreds of white outside the court house and hundreds of blacks outside the courthouse. They holding up racist signs because they want Carl Lee Hailey to go to prison, the blacks are wanting them to free Carl Lee Hailey.

The author’s point of view His point of view is that if that had happen to your own kids. That you would of reacted the same way Carl Lee Hailey did, because no parent is going to set back and let some guys raped her and when they tried to hang her and threw her off over into a creek left to die. You wouldn’t let them guys get away with what they did to your daughter.

why do I think it is effective? I think this speech is very effective, because it really appeals to your emotion when he’s giving the speech. Matthew McConaughey is retelling the story of what happen to Carl Lee Hailey’s 10-year old daughter. He makes the jury picture everything makes them close their eyes while he tell it. Then he's says picture her white and half the jury done into tears, because it is horrible about what happen to Carl Lee Hailey's little girl.

This is the part where he retells the story This is a story about a little girl walking home from the grocery store one sunny afternoon. I want you to picture this little girl. Suddenly a truck races up. Two men jump out and grab her. They drag her into a nearby field and they tie her up, and they rip her clothes from her body. Now they climb on, first one then the other, raping her, shattering everything innocent and pure -- vicious thrusts -- in a fog of drunken breath and sweat. And when they're done, after they killed her tiny womb, murdered any chance for her to bear children, to have life beyond her own, they decide to use her for target practice. So they start throwing full beer cans at her. They throw ‘them so hard that it tears the flesh all the way to her bones -- and they urinate on her.

What happens Carl Lee Hailey gets off they let him go because of his situation that happen to his daughter. Because any loving caring parent would of went crazy if that happen to there little girl. So they let him go and he got to go home to his family and his little girl!
