Hearing – How We Hear Sound
Presentation transcript:

How do we hear?

Date How do we hear? Label the structures of the ear Explain how a sound outside the ear turns into a signal that gets to the brain.

Listen and draw You need to get into pairs and number yourselves 1 and 2. You will need a piece of paper. 1 you need to face away from the board 2 face towards the board but not able to look at 1. Number 2 will have 2 minutes to describe to number 1 what is on the board and they must draw it. Swap roles and do the same again. This is good to demonstrate with 2 students at the front

Swap roles and seats

Auditory nerve

Does your’s look like this? Auditory nerve

You now need to label the parts of the Ear and stick this in your books Auditory nerve

Narration Divide your page into 6 sections Number them 1-6 For each step of hearing, you will need to draw a picture to represent that step. At the end, you will need to decode your pictures to work out what they mean Read out the slide that’s 2 ahead but do not show them it. When they have drawn them, ask them to write 1-6 on the next page and write out what the pictures mean, this may need prompting to start with but they will get it.

Narration Sound funnels down to the ear drum The drum hits the bones: hammer anvil and stirrup The bones hit a liquid The liquid moves some tiny hairs The tiny hairs send signals to the brain The brain puts the signals together to understand the sound
