Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! Back to School Basics! Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!

Back to School Basics! In the month of August, most teachers spend a lot of time going over the “basics”. Rules, procedures, and expectations that most students are pretty familiar with. For a school nurse, it’s really not much different! There are several important things to remind kids of at the start of a new year!

First… HANDWASHING!! Washing your hands is absolutely the cornerstone of staying healthy!! Remind your child to wash their hands before they eat, after playtime, after using the restroom, etc. Soap and water are a must! If they aren’t able to wash their hands, sanitizer can be used.

Remember… Keeping your hands to yourself is a great way to prevent the spread of germs. Everything you touch transfers germs to your hands, and if you then touch your mouth, nose, or eyes, you have moved those germs into your body and potientially caused sickness.

With that being said… Keep your hands, pencils, erasers, etc OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. That’s a quick, easy way to get sick and it’s very preventable! Nothing except food or drink goes in to your mouth!

Breakfast is a basic… Be sure to eat a healthy, balanced breakfast each morning. If you are unable to eat breakfast at home, breakfast is provided free of charge each morning at school.

Sleep is a must! It’s very important for you to get a good night’s sleep. Having enough sleep will give you energy, ability to focus, and help you have a great day!

Eating healthy is a good thing… Eating a variety of healthy, nutritious meals is very important for your health and wellbeing. Eating different fruits and vegetables gives you lots of vitamins and nutrients!
