Build a Nation

Learning objectives WALT: Work as a team to plan and develop a nation. Aims: Good teamwork Creativity Originality

Thinking questions……. Discuss as a class…. What needs to be in place for a country to have a successful government? What services are vital for nations to function? What can countries do to make people feel like they belong to their nation?

Your challenge……. You are going to create your own nation as a tutor group. You will need to think about a range of different elements which make up a nation. You are going to create an information poster about your nation working in small groups. Each group will complete at least 1 element of your build a nation challenge.

What to do… The tutor group will need to be divided up into groups of 3 or 4 to complete at least 1 aspect of the nation. (Its up to individual tutors how they wish to divide this) Once you have split up into mini groups you need to decide who is doing what (see next slide). You will have 2 ½ tutor sessions to complete this……remember there is a prize!! In the last tutor session you will need to put all the tasks together to create a full poster about your nation on the sugar paper provided.

Your poster must include……. An original name An emblem and a motto A flag A national anthem Laws National holidays (explain what for) Something its famous for A landmark Typical weather/climate Key industries An ID card/ passport How your tutor decides to divide up the workload is up to them. But all elements must be displayed on the 1 poster.

The competition…. This is a competition with a tutor prize available for the best nation’s. One tutor from each house will be chosen as the winner by the Humanities department. Prizes will be brought round to tutors after judging takes place. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE PLACED IN THE BOX WHICH WILL BE SITUATED AND LABELED IN THE STAFF ROOM BY MONDAY 17TH NOVEMBER.

Evaluation….. Questions to reflect on….. How well did your tutor group work together? Did everyone contribute? Which was the most surprising element of your nation? How would you improve your tutor’s work if you were to complete the task again? What were your strengths and weaknesses?
