It is the largest and most important city of the industrial region known as Vale do Paraíba. São José dos Campos is also known for its academic strength. Major research institutes, such us the National Institute for Space Research INPE, as well as private and state universities are located here. Fostering science and technology in earth and space context and be able to offer products and regular services in benefit of the country, the National Institute for Space Research has become a national and international reference in both space and earth environment.
