Remembrance Morning Worship St Cecilia (22nd) – Patron Saint of Music 21st November 2011 Tomorrow is St Cecilia’s Day. Information from Exciting Holiness: Cecilia was one of the most revered martyrs of the Roman Church, but the only thing we know for certain is that at some point in the second or third century, a woman called Cecilia allowed the Church to meet in her house in Trastevere in the city of Rome and that afterwards the church erected on that site bore her name. She was remembered as a brave woman who risked giving hospitality to the Christian Church when to do so was risky and might possibly end in death. According to a tradition that can be dated no earlier than the fifth century, she converted her pagan husband and his brother to the faith, both of whom were martyred before her. She is said to have been singing to God as she was dying. She is honoured as the patron saint of musicians, church music, organists and the blind. Bishop Justus Church of England School

Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Tomorrow is Saint Cecilia’s day. Saint Cecilia was a martyr for her faith (she died because she was a Christian). She is reported to have been singing to God when she was dying. She is the Patron Saint of music-today is a chance to celebrate the delights of music. Our reading today is a psalm – this one is a song of praise showing the importance of music.

Receive Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his surpassing greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Psalm 150
