Who is Douglas Jamerson Elementary? Opened in 2003 with funding from Magnet Schools of America 100% application, no entrance criteria Teacher-created engineering curriculum 575 students with a full range of programs including ESE Title I school, 66% free and reduced lunch, 65% minority 66% free and reduced lunch Vision Engineering innovative thinkers for global success!

Demographic Breakdown 47% Caucasian 38% Black/African American 8% Hispanic 5% Multiracial 2% Asian 57% Low SES We form diverse classes and heterogeneous student engineering teams.

Innovative Engineering Curriculum What are the common components? Engineering units created and implemented by the classroom teachers Connections made through the Engineering Lab, Computer Lab, Maker Space, Outdoor Classrooms, and Field Trips Integration across ELA, math, social studies Family engagement fused into the theme through Engineering Expos and events Important habits of mind developed in Nature of Science & Engineering: Awareness of Self and Others, Communication, Collaboration, Perseverance

Florida State Science Assessment 2016 L1 L2 L3 L4 L5 Jamerson 6% 15% 18% 23% 38% Pinellas 21% 24% 27% 14% 13% Florida 26% 11% These are the percentages of students meeting or exceeding expectations – scoring at Level 3, 4, or 5. This is our highest ranking in the district ever, and we rank in the Top 5% of schools in Florida. 61% of students exceeded expectations, #1 in Pinellas County!

No only have we increased achievement tremendously since 2008, we have significantly closed the achievement gap. 2014 marked the first time in our history that more than half of our black students met expectations, and in 2015 that increased to 2/3.
