Bienvenue à la classe de français 1! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atNkI6QFZ50

Bonjour! Je me présente 

Décollage: Take off  1. Using the provided card stock, fold your paper hot-dog style. Think of ONE adjective that describes you and write your first name (nickname) followed by that adjective clearly on the front of the “tent.” You may use markers/colored markers to personalize your name tag. Ex: Awesome Johnny / Creative Sarah / Fast Mike 2. Using the provided white piece of paper, write your first name (nick name) big and clear across the short side of the paper at the top. Below that, draw a picture of something you do (a sport/hobby/activity). You may use markers/colored markers to personalize your paper. Your art work is not being graded! LOL My example is on the board.

Class procedure: what’s my job? 1. No English unless absolutely necessary! 2. Actively listen and pay attention. 3. Let me know when you don’t understand. 4. Look like you are participating. 5. Make eye-contact with me at all times. 6. React with emotion to all statements. 7. Answer all questions asked. 8. Ask questions when you don’t understand! 9. Ask questions when you don’t understand!

Comprehension checks During class, I will ask questions like “What did I just say?” or “What did I just ask?” or “What does _______ mean? etc. I do this to make sure everyone is understanding. I will also check for understanding by saying “Doigts!” (fingers). When I say this, show me how much you understand with your fingers. All 10 fingers means you understood 100%; 9 fingers means you understood 90%; 8 fingers means you understood 80%, etc. Lastly, I will ask you to turn in your DECOLLAGE paper with your name and number from 1 to 10 in that day’s box. Again each number represents how much you understood that day’s class. If you have a question or some difficulty, you can write it down.

Conversations When I ask you a question, do your best to answer my question in French. Use “oui” for yes or “non” for no. You can use English if you don’t know the French, but do your best to limit English as much as possible. When I make a statement, respond with “Ohhhhhhh!” as if it’s the most interesting thing you’ve ever heard, or “Ohhh noooooo!” as if it’s the worst thing you’ve ever heard if it’s something bad. Everything is possible in French class, so set your imaginations free! If you don’t understand or think I’m going too fast, RAISE YOUR HAND and let me know! I am available for help before school, during lunch, and after school 

MYTH OR REALITY? French is harder than Spanish. French is spoken by only 4 million people. French is spoken only in France. Nearly 1/3 of English is actually French. It is impossible to learn French after the age of ten. Anyone can learn French. All French people speak English.

On se présente! Bonjour!= Hello! Je m’appelle = My name is Enchanté! = Pleased to meet you! Au revoir! = Good-bye! BRAIN BREAK: INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO AT LEAST 3 PEOPLE IN CLASS  DON’T BE SCARED OF MADAME SCHROEDER!

Que savez-vous? What do you know? Please list any French words you already know. Please list any places in the world you know that speak French.

Atterissage: before you exit Complete your Décollage for today. Circle the number in the comprehension box that represents the percentage of French you understood today. Add any questions you might have or mention any troublesome words. Bon travail (Good job!) Merci beaucoup et bonne journée (Thank you very much and have a nice day)!
