Presentation transcript:

The Jesus Creed: Prayer The Jesus Creed: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength [and] love your neighbour as yourself.' (Mark 12.29-31) The Kaddish Magnified and sanctified be His great name in in the world He created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom during your life and during your days, and during the life of all the house of Israel, speedily and in the near future. And say Amen. The Lord’s Prayer “Father...” “hallowed” = “sanctified” (“magnified”) ← kingdom established (soon) “our daily bread...” forgiveness (both ways) temptation No Amen (but they said it anyway!)

The Jesus Creed: Prayer Why did Jesus change the Kaddish into the Lord’s Prayer? so that we can pray it so that we can call God “Father” so that we can learn what God really wants so that we can learn to think of others so that we can live out the Jesus Creed in response The Jesus Creed: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength [and] love your neighbour as yourself.' (Mark 12.29-31)
