Roman public water systems In Roman times, ordinary people got clean water from public fountains. Wealthier homes had private water supply. Sewer systems carried away waste water. The top one is an old Roman sewer. The bottom is a modern sewer.

Romance languages The widest spread romance language is Spanish. Other major romance languages are Italian, French, Portuguese, and Romanian. Romanians say hello like this, “Buna Ziua” the French say hello like this, “bonjour”. The two words sound almost the same.

Roman aqueducts The Roman aqueducts are one of the ways that Romans get water. They had eleven major aqueducts. Their aqueducts were made with little notches that caught rocks and dirt as the water was flowing down. They had to use gravity to get the water down to the village or town. The top is a roman aqueduct and the bottom is modern.

Concrete The Roman’s invented concrete. It was a material that was stronger and easier to use than stone. They designed arches and huge domes made of concrete. They also used it to build roads. The roads helped the army move faster. The top is roman the bottom is modern.

Arches The Romans were great arch makers. They would use them on all types of buildings. Some of the buildings that had arches are coliseums, and even aqueducts.
