Chapter 9 Bank Master Records Bank master records contain information about any banking institution with which an organization conducts business. Chapter Objectives Discuss the data needed to create a Bank master record. Understand what the Bank Directory is and how it is created. Understand the concept of House Banks. Discuss the various ways Bank master records can be created in the system. Create a complete Bank master record and link it to a G/L Account master record

Bank Directory Step 1 Step 2 Automatic Bank Creation in IMG Manual Bank Creation in Treasury Management Manual Bank Creation in IMG Step 1 Bank master record data for all banks in the system is stored in the Bank Directory, which is stored in Table BNKA. The data includes the bank key, the name of the bank, the address and country specification The two ways to create information in the Bank Directory are: Automatically: If master data exists for the Bank Directory on tape or disk, it can be imported it into the system using a special program. Manually: Unlike Customer and Vendor master records, Bank master records are created in the Implementation Guide in the FI module (IMG); however, Bank master records can also be created on the Application side in the Treasury Management module. The system automatically accesses the Bank Directory maintenance function when creating or maintaining a Customer/Vendor master record or when entering a document for a one-time account if the bank data specified does not exist in the Bank Directory. Step 2

House Banks The Bank Directory contains complete details about each House Bank. A House Bank is any banking institution with which the organization conducts business. The House Bank contains the company’s funds. House Banks for each Company Code are created using a user-defined five character code. For each House Bank, the Bank Country must be identified in which the bank is located, as well as a unique Bank Key. The Bank Key is a unique country-specific code. The system uses the combination of Country Code and Bank Key to identify the House Bank. Each House Bank can have multiple Bank Accounts created within it, each identified by a unique code containing up to 18 characters. Note: The length of both the Bank Key and the Bank Account numbers is a country specific configuration.

Bank Accounts G/L Account Master Record Bank Account Master Record Each of the Bank Accounts created within a House Bank must be assigned a unique freely definable five-character Account ID. The Account ID is used for the Payment Program specifications and in the account master records to make a reference to the bank account. A G/L Account master record must be created for each Bank Account. The House Bank and Account ID must be entered in the G/L Account master record to ensure that accounting transactions involving the Bank Account will be reflected in the General Ledger.
