Science Camp Information Meeting Tuesday, September 20

When are we leaving/arriving back? We will be leaving on Monday, September 26 at 8:30am from OPA. The students are required to be at OPA at 8am in order to organize our luggage and prepare to load the buses. We will be arriving back at OPA around 11:3oam on Friday, September 30th!

Weather Sunny in the mid-70’s all week. Nights get to be in the high 40’s. No chance of rain. Bring a light jacket or sweatshirt.

What to bring (clothes):  8 pairs of socks  5 pairs of underwear  2 pairs of pajamas  3 pairs of jeans/warm pants  1 pair of shorts (cabin time only)  3 long sleeve shirts  2 short sleeve shirts (no sleeveless or tanks)  1 school approved sweater or sweatshirt  1 school approved hat/cap  2 pairs of athletic shoes or hiking boots PLEASE MAKE SURE TO LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME AND OPA!

Students are limited to:  One suitcase OR Duffel bag  Sleeping bag  Pillow ***ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE LABELED WITH THE STUDENT’S NAME AND SCHOOL***

What to bring:  1 towel and washcloth  Soap/ Shampoo (2in1 recommended)  Toothbrush/toothpaste  Deodorant (non-aerosol)  Chap Stick**  Sunscreen (non-aerosol only)  Sleeping bag/pillow (Wrapped in plastic bag)  Pens/Pencils, paper, envelope & stamps  Camera (Disposable-clearly labeled with name; Digital-clearly labeled with name, Arrowhead Ranch is not responsible for this! No video) ***PLEASE BE SURE TO BRING*** Reusable Water Bottle **BACKPACK – for hiking & carrying water, journal, extra stuff **

LONG PANTS MUST BE WORN ON ALL HIKES. STUDENTS MAY WEAR SHORTS AT OTHER TIMES & IN THE CABIN. SWEATS ARE RECOMMENDED SLEEPING ATTIRE. STUDENTS ARE TO CHANGE IN THE BATHROOM AND ALWAYS PRACTICE MODESTY.

What NOT to bring: THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL BE CONFISCATED FROM STUDENTS AND GIVEN TO THE TEACHERS: CELL PHONES, MONEY, KNIVES, ELECTRONIC DEVICES SUCH AS IPODS, RADIOS, GAMEBOYS, SNACKS, GUM, CANDY, SODA/DRINKS, CURLING/FLAT IRONS, AEROSOL SPRAYS such as PERFUMES and BODY SPRAYS

Phone policy: Students are not allowed to make or receive phone calls while at Outdoor Science School. Parents are not permitted to call the student or visit the camp unless it is an emergency situation.

Medications: All prescriptions must be sent in the original container with the doctor’s name, child’s name and correct dosage. The Medication Authorization Form must be filled out completely AND correctly or prescribed and over the counter medications cannot be dispensed. In addition, please put all medications in a plastic zip lock bag, clearly labeled with your child’s name and school.

Discipline Policy: Arrowhead Ranch has a 3 strike discipline policy. If your child receives 3 strikes while at camp, they will be sent home. Discipline is determined by the director and counselors. Some offenses are automatic 3rd strike and sent home: -Scaring others during night hike - Bullying -Causing damage to camp or other’s property

Bead System: Arrowhead Ranch uses a positive reinforcement program to reward the students for exceptional behavior. Students receive different color beads for different good acts.

Medication This is due by Thursday, September 22! If your child needs medication: There is no physician’s signature required for over the counter medication, just a parent signature. Please only send it if it is taken on a regular basis. Arrowhead Camp has over the counter medications in case your child needs it (listed on form). If your child requires a prescription medication: Please make sure to have your physician sign the form. Send the prescription in the original container, in a bag with your child’s name on both. This is due by Thursday, September 22!

Before we leave: Make sure to talk to them about what camp will be like before next week (adventure, hikes, fun with friends). Send notes addressed to your child to receive while at camp. Be sure to let them know that there are no phones or calls allowed. Pack a personal item from home (stuffed animal, pillow pet, blanket).

Luggage Drivers We are in need of parents taking luggage up to camp and bringing it back to OPA. If you signed up for it or are interested, please make sure to indicate that you are available to either drive luggage up to Lake Arrowhead or bring it back to OPA. Drivers will need to arrive at OPA at 8:00am on Monday, September 26 to load luggage. Friday, September 30, we will need drivers at Arrowhead Ranch at 10am to load the luggage for us to leave back to OPA.
