Objective By the end of the workshop, CHWs will be able to discuss: Why postpartum family planning (PPFP) is key to keeping mothers and babies healthy Tell participants that by the end of the workshop, they will be able to discuss the importance of postpartum family planning (PPFP) for the health of mothers and babies. PPFP counseling: Why? Ask participants to explain what this picture tells them about the need for PPFP counseling. Mention that if women have too many children close together, their children may not be healthy, her health may suffer, and she may not be able to take care of all the needs of her children. Postpartum family planning is a life-saving measure for mothers and babies! It helps to: Prevent deaths of mothers Prevent newborn and child deaths Reduce chances that babies are born too soon or too small Explain each of the bullets as a way in which PPFP saves the lives of mothers and babies. Giving PPFP counseling on modern methods Mention that their counseling will need to adjust to the local situation for the women they counsel. If mothers sit on the floor, they may want to sit on the floor while talking to them so that the mothers will feel comfortable.
