Mrs. Payne- 6th Grade ELAR Welcome to your middle school family! My goal is to assist you during your transition from intermediate to middle school. I am looking forward to forming a partnership with you that will inevitably impact your child’s achievement. It’s going to be a wonderful year! Email is the fastest way to reach me! paynee@chapelhillisd.org Phone # (903) 566-1491 ELAR Grade : Daily Work 60% Tests 40% Grades will be sent home: Six Weeks Progress Reports Report Cards 1st September 14th October 12th 2nd October 26th November 16th 3rd December 7th January 4th 4th January 25th February 22nd 5th March 22nd April 19th 6th May 3rd June 1st Supplies- Come to class prepared. You are expected to have a pencil, paper, your journal and folder, and a library book every day, whether you expect to use them or not. Not being prepared wastes time and will result in a consequence. Warm Ups- Students will have 10 minutes to complete the assignment. Warm-ups are worth one grade per week! HOMEWORK- A reading log and skills practice sheet will be sent home weekly. Reading logs are due every Monday. Skills practice sheets are due on Thursdays. A detailed letter will be sent home shortly explaining Book Adventure, an incentive based reading program where students read independently, then complete online comprehension quizzes to earn prizes for their reading success. Other homework may include incomplete class assignments, make-up work, Pre-AP or GT projects, research projects, and optional extra credit assignments. Late Work- Work that is not turned in by the stated due date is considered late. Late work receives an automatic 10 point penalty followed by an additional 5 points for each day it is late. Grade Replacements and Test Corrections- Students are allowed to correct ANY failing assignment or test during a six week grading period for no higher than a 70%. Planners – Students must bring their planner to class everyday. Students write objectives, homework, and reminders in their planners. Planners also serve as our hall-pass. The planner is an excellent way for students to stay organized and keep parents informed.
