Class Admin This half term our PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child has a NAMED PE kit in school – shorts, t shirt and trainers/plimsolls. Book bags need to come to school everyday. The children should be changing their reading book in the morning independently. Please ensure you write in your child’s reading log – they get a certificate for every 10 books they read. Please ensure coats and cardigans/jumpers are named – they do go walking and it helps return them to the rightful owner. Golden Plate Registers are taken at 9am. Please ensure you leave promptly so that learning can start.

Year 1 Curriculum

Recognise and join in with predictable phrases. Recognise: capital letters Relate reading to own experiences. full stops Re-read if reading does not make sense. question marks exclamation marks Re-tell with considerable accuracy. ellipsis Discuss significance of title and events. Make inferences on basis of what is being said and done.

Example text from a turquoise level reading book “The litter queen”

This is equivalent to securely reading and comprehending a Turquoise level book. Part of reading is linked to the decoding (use of phonics to read) of the text. In June all Year 1 children in England take a Phonics Test reading real and alien words. Along with learning and using more complex sounds, the children are expected to read (not sound out) “common exception words”.
