C.R.E. AUGUST INSTITUTE 2016 “Welcome” to our new volunteers. We are glad to have you join us! “Welcome Back” to our returning volunteers! Helpful hints and procedures are in your blue binder – please read them over!

LESSON PLANS Lesson plans and tips to help teach can be found online at www.stannparish.org/c-r-e-catechists or www.stannparish.org, hover over “Parish Life” and then choose Children K-5 under “Youth Formation.” Then select “Children’s Religious Education.” http://aliveinchrist.osv.com/parish/lessons_planning If you go to the Alive in Christ site for lesson planning and do not yet have a log-on, you will need your catechist manual.

LESSON MATERIALS Lesson materials for the week can be found in 2 places: 1. Shared materials will be on the grade-level tables in the C.R.E. hallway. Return these shared materials (videos, props, books, etc.) to the table after class.

LESSON MATERIALS Lesson materials for the week can be found in 2 places: (cont.) 2. Individual materials, such as handouts, materials kept by children, etc., will be counted out & put into your lesson materials basket. These baskets will be in the C.R.E. Resource Room, labeled by class day/time/grade/room #. Return left-over materials in the baskets - with Attendance Folders! - to the Resource Room after class.

CLASS BASKETS Each class has their own basket in the classroom. You may keep personal supplies you use for your class only in these baskets – do not store shared supplies from the supply cabinet or for lessons in the baskets. New this year - All class baskets in the rooms will have a supply of pencils. 1st through 3rd grades will also have a supply of crayons.

CLASS ATTENDANCE FOLDER Class attendance folders will be kept in each individual class lesson materials basket. Class attendance sheets should be kept in the folders and attendance taken each week of students and catechists. Attendance folders will be kept in the lesson materials basket. During the planning session and the first few weeks of classes, you will have the opportunity to write down any information from the children’s registration forms that you need and did not print on the class list – such as medical or social concerns, additional phone #’s, allergy info, etc. Then the forms will be kept in the C.R.E. Office and copies shredded. Please be sure to make a copy of the class list for each catechist to keep at home for bad weather days.

ATTENDANCE SHEET Example of Class Attendance Sheet – Catechists, this means you, too! If you have a student show up to your class, but he/she is not listed on your class list or you do not have a copy of their registration form with a note saying to add to your class, please let the C.R.E. Office staff know. They may be in the wrong classroom and just need to be re-directed.

FORMS These forms are available to you & are located inside the supply cabinet, in expandable file: Absence Forms Requisition for Materials A Question for Mrs. Kaluza

FORMS After taking attendance and filling out the attendance sheet, mark down the absent children’s names on the Absence Form (found in the supply cabinet) and turn in to the C.R.E. Office (a monitor may also come by and pick up the forms). If a child has missed 3 times, call the student’s parents and notify our office. If you will be absent, be sure to call the C.R.E. Office.

FORMS The Traffic & Dismissal form will be ready for you to hand out to your students at the first class. We also email the form to the parents before class starts, so you may get completed forms the first day. The parents must pick up their children from the classroom unless they have this completed form for the child. The completed forms are to be kept in your class folder. We will also email the form to the parents, so they may give it to you on the first day of class.

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES C.R.E. classrooms have cabinets set aside for general supplies that are shared between all classes. Rooms 101 – 109, Lecture Hall: Will still have a supply of pencils, crayons in each cabinet…

REWARDS & INCENTIVES We encourage you to use a variety of rewards and incentives for your class. We have holy cards, prayer cards, & stickers in the C.R.E. Office. We also have some trinkets/toys from which to choose in our resource room. We also have, by request, some hand manipulation-type toys for children in your class who have a hard time being still or need something to do with their hands to help pay attention.

C.R.E. GUIDELINES & POLICIES Don’t forget to look through your binder for important information, helpful hints, tips for the classroom, etc. Especially read the C.R.E. Guide & Policies pages. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have. Good luck with this coming school year!
