LATE ADULTHOOD AGE 65+

PHYSICAL CHANGES Wrinkles and skin folds Senses become less sharp Reflexes and reaction time are slower Bones are brittle/Joints are stiff Many older people may prefer walking and swimming Immune system becomes weak Regular exercise and a healthful diet can contribute to making older adults feel well

COGNITIVE CHANGES Dementia: major losses in memory (senile after age 65) Speech problems/Can’t perform simple tasks Alzheimer’s: progressive deterioration of memory, language and physical functioning Eventually people become unable to communicate or walk and require help eating
