Move On Carefully: numeracy Introductory module

Care sector Why get involved? What are the benefits? Support staff to develop skills to enable them to be more confident with maths, both at work and in general. To provide a quality service to service users and patients.

Aims: To discuss the proposed training and the National Certificate in Adult Numeracy. To provide an opportunity for participants to undergo a numeracy skills check and identify their preferred learning style. 3

Outcomes Participants will: build confidence and have an enjoyable experience of learning discuss and sample training programme content through taster activities receive feedback on current numeracy skills and areas that would benefit from further development.

What are Skills for Life? The functional maths skills used in everyday life: Number: whole numbers, percentages, fractions and decimals Measurement Data handling (graphs and charts) National Standards/Curriculum National qualifications/tests at Level 1

The programme Pilot programmes in region 8–10 participants Three-hour taster 36-hour maths programme Participants will have the opportunity to gain the National Certificate in Adult Numeracy at Level 1, with advice on progression to Level 2.

Programme aim To provide participants with an opportunity: to brush up their numeracy skills through training linked to work-related procedures and daily activities to achieve a Level 1 national qualification.

Programme objectives To provide participants with an enjoyable experience of learning that meets their personal goals and interests. To build participants’ confidence in using maths at work. To cover the numeracy skills included in the Level 1 test, making the content relevant to roles in the care sector. To provide an opportunity for participants to achieve the National Certificate in Adult Numeracy at Level 1.
