BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN USing THE OUTSIDE TO SUPPORT THE INSIDE

running a business so easy ? JUST DO SOME WORK AND WATCH THE CASH ROLL IN ………..

Or …. Have I got this wrong ? MAYBE IT’S NOT QUITE THAT SIMPLE

We dream of this ….

But get this …..

I ALWAYS BELIEVED …. To Run A Successful Business You Need To Move At A Hundred Miles Per Hour AND Do Loads Of Stuff AND

BY DOING SO ….. BUT …....

You can’t run a business from here I NEARLY LEARNED A HARSH LESSON IN THE PROCESS You can’t run a business from here

I HAD Followed THE 100 MPH MANTRA UNTIL 2012 – WHEN ….... I Had A Problem With A Small Blood Clot Which Travelled Through My Body To My Brain, Cutting Off The Oxygen For A Short Time The Cause Was Not Diagnosed But I Had A Transient Ischemic Attack – A Mini Stroke Fortunately I Was Within The 5% Band Of Victims Who Come Through Without Any After Effects, I Saw A Lot Of People At The Hospital Who Were Not So Lucky – The Experience Shook Me Up And Scared Me.

WHY – BECAUSE I DIDN’T LISTEN I Believed I Could Do Everything At 100 miles an hour I Believed I Was Invincible And Didn’t Look After Myself I Didn’t Have A Good Work-Life Balance I Believed If Something Needed Doing I Should Just Get On With It I Did Exactly The Opposite Of What I Was Telling Others To Do

THIS GUY HAD ALREADY WARNED ME BEFORE

In 1999 He asked if this was for me HIS ANSWER “Rich, you have to bring the outside in, You can’t do everything”

I didn’t EVER think I needed help BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN FELT LIKE MAKING A HUGE LEAP OF FAITH

I KNOW that Prevention is better than cure

SMART NOT HARD

TIME TO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY IT WAS TIME TO CHANGE TIME TO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN TO BRING THE OUTSIDE IN ? BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN TO BRING THE OUTSIDE IN ?

IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BE THE BEST AT EVERYTHING

the 7 roles of a business owner 1 2 2 1 4 6 Importance Of Specific Business Owner The Order That We Ranked The Roles To A Business Effectiveness Of Ourselves As Business The Order That We Ranked The Owners In Specific Roles 5 3 3 5 6 4 7 7

the 7 roles of a business owner The Summary : In general the majority of the group felt that the Big Picture, Strategy and Business Model was the most important facet as a business owners and this sat alongside the hands on day to day operations and the managing of the outside appearance of the business, it was generally agreed that the roles of the Architect and Carpenter were most important and most actioned. We believe that promoting our business is important, as well as learning new skills that will help us enhance what we do, however, we don’t spend enough time doing this, we spend more time working in our business than on it in these areas. We didn’t really believe that getting the systems and processes right in out businesses and motivating and coaching our teams was that important, however we actually spend more time doing this than we thought. Nobody really likes, or has the time to do the gardening !! But secretly we know it has to be done.

LOOK AROUND YOU – WHAT CAN OTHERS DO FOR YOU – HOW CAN YOU MAKE MORE MONEY AND HAVE LESS STRESS BY BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN ? THINK ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DO WELL AND WHAT YOU DON’T ASK YOURSELF A QUESTION – ARE YOU DOING THINGS WHICH SOMEONE COULD DO BETTER THAN YOU DO IT, MORE EFFICIENTLY OR IN A WAY THAT WILL EASE PRESSURE ON YOU OR YOUR BUSINESS THEN ASK YOURSELF IF THIS CAN BE DONE BY SOMEONE ELSE AT EITHER A LOWER COST THAN IT COSTS YOU IN TIME, IN A WAY THAT THE AMOUNT YOU SPEND INCREASES YOUR TURNOVER AND PROFTABILITY BY MORE THAN IT COSTS OR IN A WAY THAT IT WILL ENHANCE THE OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS OR REPUTATION OF YOUR BUSINESS

JUSTIFY THE COST Can You Do The Task Yourself ? Can You Do The Task As Well As Someone Else ? Can You Realistically Make The Time To Do The Task Well ? Don’t Outsource Will You Be Able to Earn More Money By Outsourcing The Task ? Consider Outsourcing Your Task Will The Task Take An Outsider Less Time To Do Than You ? Could You Justify The Cost Of Employing Someone Full Time ? Will The Task Be A Long Term Project ? Consider Outsourcing your task Make A Commercial Decision

Set the k.p.i’s and r.o.i ALWAYS REMEMBER Make sure that your Outside Person knows exactly what you expect Ensure that you agree strict time frames, it is always easier to lengthen rather than shorten a project Set up a series of KPI’s so that you know what and why you want to achieve Track your return on investment Best honest with your Outsider, if things are not going the way you want, stand back with them, explain why you have concerns and re-focus together Ask for a weekly or monthly update on the work that is being done Don’t expect miracles, work with them to get as much as possible out of the relationship

THE BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN EQUATION + =
