Using the Popandson sluice technology for ASM fine gold recovery The ASM Sluice Program Using the Popandson sluice technology for ASM fine gold recovery
ASM Sluice Program Mission Statement We are the not-for-profit ASM Sluice Program, and our mission is to get the Popandson sluice technology directly into the hands of the ASM. The first step, already underway, is to send actual sluices to the ASM mining areas, at no charge. This, to introduce the technology and jump-start the use by the ASM. They can then determine if it is useful in their situation. The second step, and ultimate goal, is for industry local to the ASM to produce the sluices. If they catch on, then plans are available via e-mail, hard copy or website to whoever wants to build them.
How fine is “fine gold”? As small as 35 microns/400 mesh
How can “fine gold” effectively be recovered by the ASM? Mercury amalgam. ASM Health hazard, Environmental hazard Cyanide. Expensive recovery Centrifuge bowl. Expensive and Hi tech. Popandson Sluice Inexpensive, rapid through-put, low tech Other inexpensive devices with sketchy performance data have good potential
Popandson Sluice Design
A finished sluice, ready to work
Benefits of the Popandson sluice High performance recovery, tested at 20 lbs/min feed, 10-20 USGPM Nuggets to 5/16” (5mm) dimension 95% recovery of 100-200 mesh gold 85% recovery of 200-325 mesh gold No mercury required Simple operation by unskilled persons Wide range of acceptable operating conditions of water, feed, slope No health risk Simple, dirt cheap construction, can be made by semi-skilled workers with standard tools and materials No patent restrictions Plans and coaching available to anyone that wants to build them
The End The ASM Sluice Program SNDG@Comcast.net The first of the ASM sluices sent to Mongolia, Fall 2006, recovered 30-50 micron gold (400 mesh) during initial trials. The End The ASM Sluice Program SNDG@Comcast.net
