Productivity & Technology Set B

EPOS (electronic point of sale) It is self-contained, computerized equipment that performs all tasks of a store checkout counter. It allows payments by bank or credit cards, verifies transactions, provides sales reports, coordinates inventory data, and performs several other services normally provided by employees.

EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) Many consumers find it convenient to pay for goods and services electronically. When you access your account electronically to make a payment, this called an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). You do an EFT transaction every time you: use your card to withdraw money from an ATM pay for goods using a credit or debit card at a shop pay for goods online  pay bills by Bpay or over the phone. Unfortunately, you should also be wary of scammers when you are transferring funds electronically. While advances in technology are exciting, scammers are also out there taking advantage of technological developments to generate a number of scams that are potentially very costly. Eftpos customers can have the option of asking the store for cash in addition to the purchases. This has the advantage for the customer of saving a trip to a bank or cash machine, and it also reduces bank charges as only one eftpos transaction is counted.   A shopper need not have cash on hand, credit cards, or a checkbook to make a purchase. This is especially convenient for unplanned or impulse buying. An EFTPOS system

CAD (Computer Aided Design) CAD, also known as Computer Aided Design is one of the technologies which is used to aid productivity. Also, CAD is called CAGD since it aids the design of geometric models. It often involves just more than using technology to design shapes, but it also involves drafting of technical and engineering designs. CAD is very important to carry out industrial design since it is used to many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding and etc. CAD is also widely used to produce computer-animation and to make special effects in movies.

Computer Aided Manufacturing CAM is using computer-based software to aid engineers and workers in building and assembling a product. CAM makes it possible to manufacture physical models made using CAD. E.g. CAM is used to build car bodies from designs made using CAD.

CIM - Computer Integrated Manufacturing CIM is a method of manufacturing where the whole production is all controlled by computers. It relies on loops of processes using certain inputs and producing certain outputs. This would be useful to a business because the company wouldn’t need so much people to work and all the jobs can be done quickly without any errors. An example for this would be in the Cadbury’s factory where all the chocolate is made and transported by machines.
