Marijuana “Ganja”

Marijuana Possession It is a crime to knowingly or intentionally possess marijuana (including small amounts for personal use) in Nebraska. Up to one ounce. Penalties for a first offense include a fine of up to $300, participation in a drug education program, or both. A second offense carries a fine of up to $400, up to five days in jail, or both. And a third or subsequent offense carries a fine of up to $500, up to seven days in jail, or both. Between one ounce and one pound. Penalties include a fine of up to $500, up to seven days in jail, or both. More than one pound. Penalties include a fine of up to $10,000, up to five years in prison, or both.

K2/Spice/Synthetic Marijuana

Synthetic “Marijuana” K2 and Spice are often referred to as Synthetic Marijuana. They aren’t actually Marijuana at all, they are a blend of different herbs and chemicals to produce an artificial blend of drug, which has the effects of “marijuana”. K2 and Spice are the most popular names, though they are sold under many different names. Comes in many forms – liquid and herb forms, and is outlawed in Nebraska. Penalties are the same as possession of real Marijuana.

Minors and Alcohol

The legal drinking age in the US is 21 years of age The legal drinking age in the US is 21 years of age. Individuals under the age of 21 may not consume or have alcohol in their possession or physical control in Nebraska. No person shall sell or give away alcohol to a minor in Nebraska. Providing alcohol to minor is a Class I misdemeanor. Adults who provide alcohol to minors can spend up to a year in jail, receive a $1000 fine or both. Recent jail sentences ranged from two months to a year.

Truancy Laws

Children Must go to school The state of Nebraska requires children between age 6 and 18 to attend school. (some exceptions) Parents who fail to comply with Nebraska's compulsory school attendance law may be charged with a Class III misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to three months in jail or a fine of up to $500 (or both) Any unexcused absence from school is considered a truancy. In Nebraska, schools will identify students with truancy problems and refer to the county attorney’s office. (Schools will take steps to be proactive ahead of the referral. Referral is last resort)

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is a Crime in the United States Domestic assault in Nebraska consists of intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing physical injury to an intimate partner. An intimate partner is: a spouse of the offender a former spouse someone with whom the defendant has children, or someone whom the defendant is dating or dated in the past. .

Domestic Violence is a Crime in the United States Domestic assault can be a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the offender’s intent and the injury caused by the assault. Intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily (physical) injury to an intimate partner is a domestic assault in the first degree. Intentionally or knowingly causing bodily injury to an intimate partner with a dangerous instrument is a domestic assault in the second degree. Domestic assault in the third degree consists of: intentionally or knowingly causing physical injury to an intimate partner, threatening in a menacing manner or threatening with immediate physical injury.

Child Abuse and Neglect

Child Neglect Emotional neglect  is when the child suffers from the parent's not giving them chances for feeling loved, wanted, secure, and worthy. Physical neglect is when a parent does not provide basic needs or a safe place to live.   Examples are: not having enough food or clothing; not following doctor's orders; not providing the supervision needed to keep the child safe; not having heat in the winter. Children the age of 12 and under should not be left alone.

Child Abuse Abuse is defined in three ways. Physical abuse exists when a child has an non-accidental injury. Emotional abuse exists when parents always put blame on a child or always reject the child. Sexual abuse exists when an adult uses a child as a part of any type of sexual act.
