Reid’s Quadrants of teacher learning (Framework) Examining Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Models and Frameworks Reid’s Quadrants of teacher learning (Framework)

Learning Outcomes Be able to acknowledge one of the three ‘lenses’ used in order to evaluate CPD programmes, Reid’s Quadrants framework. Be able to use this framework to analyse your own CPD. Be able to identify the pros and cons related to the framework.

What is this framework all about? Reid’s Quadrants framework forms part of a trilogy of ‘lenses’ or ways of understanding the range of factors of our Continuing Professional Development as teachers (Bell & Gilbert and Kennedy’s). This framework analyses teacher learning opportunities or ‘sphere of action’ in which our professional learning takes place.

Task 1: Place CPD events on the Framework Reid’s Quadrants Formal Incidental conversations at teacher network meetings Education Authority courses 1 2 Planned Incidental 4 3 Web-based networks Staffroom chat Informal

Task 2: Identify the pros and cons of Reid’s Quadrants framework In two groups... Quickly think about positive aspects and an issues with this framework. List of pros and cons (Malcom) Add or change things if you want!

Thank you for listening! Any Questions? Thank you for listening!
