Rainwater Class Procedures

Procedure #1: Entering the classroom Proceed to your assigned seat and sit down quietly! BEFORE the bell rings Notebook and pen/pencil should be out and ready by the time the bell rings. I shouldn’t have to remind you to get started on your daily journal. Begin work on your daily journal. The journal will always be on the screen. You are to work on this independently and quietly. Silent is the word!

Procedure #2: Exiting the Classroom The bell does not release the class, the teacher does. When the bell rings, stay seated. I will release you. Your behavior in class determines your release. Each student should leave their desk, taking all of their belongings with them (including garbage). On your way out the door, make sure that any homework or daily work is turned in (not left on your desk). DO NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR!

Procedure #3: Sharpening your pencil Pencils should be sharpened before the bell rings. If your pencil breaks during class, hold your pencil in the air. This signals that you need to sharpen your pencil. Wait for me to give you the signal that you can sharpen your pencil. One at a time.

Procedure #4: Asking and Answering Questions You must raise your hand to speak in class. If you have a question or want to answer a question, raise your hand. When the teacher calls on you, you may ask or answer a question. There should be no speaking out of turn unless discussion has been specifically instructed.

Procedure #5: Turning in Assignments Assignments will be passed to the front of each row face-down. To give your paper to the person in front of you, gently tap them on their right shoulder and hand them your paper. This is a silent procedure. The first person in each row will neatly stack all papers face down on their desk for the teacher to collect. Do not leave assignments on my desk unless otherwise told. If you were absent or need to turn in work after the teacher collects it during, you may place it in your class folder next to my desk. Any work that is not placed in this folder will not be graded.

Procedure #6: Fire Drill/Emergencies/Assemblies etc. When the fire alarm goes off, remain seated. The teacher will dismiss the class. Form a single-file line. All students are to stay together and walk to the track and form a single-file line until all students are accounted for and we are allowed to go back in. You must stay with your class. Our Fire Drill location is the track behind the school. Roll will be taken once the class has reached the fire drill location. If you are not with the class when roll is called, you will lose points on your daily participation grade. When the drill is over, wait for my instructions. Do not head into the school separately from the class.

Procedure #7: Bathroom Passes There are two hall passes for the class. Only one student per pass. If a student wants to use a bathroom pass, they should hold the pass in the air. The teacher will dismiss you. Bathroom trips should last no longer than 5 minutes (STAY IN 600’s). Your hall pass privileges can be taken away at any time if they are misused. Passes may be used for the bathroom, to go to the drinking fountain, your locker, or to the office. That’s it. Anything else should be done on your own time (during passing periods, lunch)

Procedure #8: Obtaining missed work All students are expected to be PRESENT in class. Students who are absent are responsible for obtaining their missed work. To do so, the student needs to ask the teacher BEFORE or AFTER class upon their first day back to school. Students are expected to be familiar with the school’s missed work policy. Cheating and copying will not be tolerated. If the teacher sees you copying another student’s work, she will take the assignment and you will receive a 0 for your grade. Plagiarism is a serious infraction and is addressed in the Student Rights and Responsibilities. You cannot earn credit for work missed from UNEXCUSED absences.

Procedure #9: Test-Taking Procedures Testing time is SILENT time All notes, papers (AND CELL PHONES) must be away and out of sight. Your desk should be empty aside from a writing utensil. When the test is over, bring your test and answer sheet to the front of the room. Make two piles of paper: one of tests, the other of answer sheets. Pick up the assignment provided for after the test.

Procedure #10: Transitioning into groups for group work When your group has been assigned, quietly locate your group members. Arrange your desks so that you are facing the members of your group. Wait quietly for directions after your groups have been formed.

Procedure #11: Tardies All students must be ON TIME to class. If you are late and have a pass from another teacher, quietly enter the classroom. Give the teacher your pass. DO NOT interrupt instruction. Begin the journal as soon as possible. This entire process should be done quietly. You should not interrupt either the teacher or the other students. Class begins when the bell rings; entering after the bell is considered tardy and will affect your weekly participation grade.

Procedure #12: Writing utensils All students are expected to bring a pencil or BLUE or BLACK ink pen to class each day. If you do not have a pencil, you may borrow one from another student. The teacher does not always have pens/pencils to loan out. Coming unprepared is not acceptable. Work that is completed in colored pencil or marker, or any ink other than blue or black will result in a 5 point deduction. Come to class prepared.

Procedure #13 Book Storage At this point in time, we only have a class set of textbooks. These books are not to leave the classroom. Homework assignments will not require the book. If you do not complete classwork that requires the book, you will be responsible for finishing that work before or after school or during Eagle Time. You may come to my room to use a book. Books are to be stored in the back of the room. The class will not leave the classroom until all books are put away at the end of class. If you choose not to put your book away, you will be holding up your entire class. AP STUDENTS: Store your books here at your own risk! You are responsible for the book, not me.

Procedure #14: Cell Phones As per FHS cell phone policy, all cell phones are to be POWERED OFF and away, out of sight, for the duration of class unless told otherwise by your teacher. Cell phones are not to be on your desk or in your lap. They need to be completely out of sight and out of reach. You will receive ONE warning and one warning only. After your first warning, your cell phone will be confiscated and turned into the main office. As per school policy, only a Parent/Guardian on file with photo I.D. can pick up your phone after school. Arguing or refusing will result in further disciplinary action. This is a time for learning, not Snapchat. In this classroom, you are not allowed to film or take pictures of anyone without their knowledge and/or consent.

PROCEDURE#15: Computers You are expected to have your laptops everyday—CHARGED! Respect the laptops. You are very fortunate to have them. Only use them in class when directed. They need to be away if I am teaching.

Procedure #16: Present your best self Respect yourself and respect others. When you are in this classroom, you are a student here to learn and in order to maintain a safe learning environment for ALL students, you will conduct yourself in a respectful manner. Appropriate language. Appropriate behavior. Appropriate dress. Praise your own and others’ achievements. Be proud of your achievements and take positive ownership of your learning.
