The main functions of the respiratory system. The main function of the respiratory system is breathing.

Diagrams

Vocabulary Trachea-Allows air to enter the body. Vocal chords- Makes sound ( helps you to talk) Lungs- helps your body to breath. Epiglottis- allows food or liquid to enter your esophagus instead of your airway. Diaphragm- A muscular partition separating the thorax from the abdomen. Larynx- A hollow organ forming an air passage to the lungs that holds your vocal cords.

The body systems with other systems. The respiratory system works together with the circulatory system to supply oxygen to the parts of the body like the respiratory system.

Fun facts about the body systems! The largest bone is the pelvis. There are 60 muscles in the face. The heart beats about three billion times in the human life. Adults eat about 500k food per year. You brain can change your breathing rate. Bacteria, viruses, and other micro- organisms can infect any of the organs in the respiratory systems.
