Thesis: Life is a journey of self-discovery, which can be seen in many songs. Claim 1: One song which clearly portrays the idea of a life journey is “A Beautiful Day” by India Arie. Evidence 1: A recurring refrain in the song states, “Life is a journey, not a destination, there are no mistakes, just chances we’ve taken” (Arie). In looking at the comparison of life as a journey, Arie points out that this journey is one without a destination leading the reader to the conclusion that the journey itself is about discovery and self-actualization and not failure. Since there are no mistakes, our errors are just a part of the process and needn't be focused on. The song reinforces the message that everyone can make a beautiful day and enjoy the life they are given as individuals.

Writing CEI-EI Paragraphs These types of paragraphs provide stronger support of your argument You should find 2 quotes that prove the same claim Decide how to build the evidence. Write about the quotes in an order that will build your argument Provide a bridge statement between your two pieces of evidence

Thesis: Life is a journey of self-discovery, which can be seen in many songs. Claim 1: One song which clearly portrays the idea of a life journey is “A Beautiful Day” by India Arie. A recurring refrain in the song states, “Life is a journey, not a destination, there are no mistakes, just chances we’ve taken” (Arie). In looking at the comparison of life as a journey, Arie points out that this journey is one without a destination leading the reader to the conclusion that the journey itself is about discovery and self-actualization and not failure. Since there are no mistakes, our errors are just a part of the process and needn't be focused on. In particular Arie decides to take a positive viewpoint on this journey, leading the reader to greater acceptance of the idea. In another part of the song she sings, “ I open up my heart and I’m gon’ do my part and make this a positively beautiful day” (Arie). In her discussion of the seeker’s own decision to journey through life with an open heart and live a “positively beautiful day” Arie suggests that we are responsible for the type of journey that we have through life and can choose to make it one of happiness and positivity. The song reinforces the message that everyone can make a beautiful day and enjoy the life they are given as individuals.
