Borsacchio’s reserve The regional natural reserve of Borsacchio was established by Act of the Abruzzo region n. 6 8th February 2005 and with the scope approved by law No. 34 1st October , 2007. In 1800 the administration of Borsacchio nature reserve was divided between the universities of Giulianova and Montepagano until administrative reform assigned completely to Montepagano University. The boundaries of the regional natural reserve of Borsacchio included an area of 1100 hectares in the municipalities of Roseto degli Abruzzi and Giulianova. The reserve protects one of the few stretches of coastline and land not manmade and still free from cement and uncontrolled urbanisation, and is important for its flora, vegetation and landscape. The plant species surveyed amounts to about 120. The presence of animal life in the reserve is characterised by many wetlands related birds such as Snowy Plover, a small bird that nests in the sand, protected by the Bern Convention and the Bonn Convention. The University of Aquila asked again the protection of the Park, as a national monument, but the owners and the local borrower decided rather than create tourist facilities. Much of the Park was fenced off and designed to accommodate a camping, resulting in works that have seen pass through the pine forest by mechanical means and upsetting his precious ecosystem. They followed orders, reports, events, laws and debates still continue to question the value of the reserve. At its meeting on 6/19/2012, the Regional Council has decided for realigning the perimeter of the reserve, with 24 votes for and 13 against. Between the river Tordino and the river Vomano extends the coast of Roseto degli Abruzzi with a linear development of about ten kilometers. The beach, low with fine sand, has a weak slope. The need to preserve the landscape and environmental aspects, with a strategy that can sustainably address the complex issues of conservation of the coastal system, has led to the emergence of a new protected area. The establishment of the nature reserve is designed to enhance and promote the natural beauty of Borsacchio to support the tourist economy. The new model of responsible tourism provides the lasting enhancement of the environment, is already successful in many other Italian places and cost, for the return of the image of tourism in coastal.
