In addition, the eyes are crucial in conveying the attitude, mood, and emotions of your character. It's just the way we were built...one tends to focus on the eyes before anything else. Eye Protection

70% Objects Striking the Eyes The CAUSES 70% Objects Striking the Eyes 70% of on-the-job eye injuries are caused by objects striking the eye. The second largest cause of injury is contact with chemicals.

What’s Missing ? 60% of those suffering eye injuries were not wearing eye protection at the time of the injury.

9 out of 10 Could Be Prevented Following safety procedures and wearing protective equipment could prevent 9 out of 10 eye injuries

Causes Dust, Powders Flying Objects Gases, Vapors, Liquids Thermal, Radiation Detailed breakdown of eye injuries have shown some specific causes: Dust or powder, fumes and mists; flying objects or particles, gases, vapors, and liquids,-- thermal and radiation hazards such as heat, glare, ultraviolet, and infrared rays; lasers, and electrical hazards. forgot me Safety glasses. I forgot me Safety glasses. Gotta watch that hook. ROGER Safety glasses are the most common type of protective equipment for the eyes. Safety glasses are much stronger than street-use lenses and are impact resistant. They come in prescription and nonprescription forms.

Types of Safety Glasses ROGER Types of Safety Glasses Safety glass lenses can be: Polycarbonate Plastic Glass The polycarbonate lenses are light and offer greater impact resistance. Glass lenses are exceptionally good when exposure to infrared radiation is the hazard.

ROGER Special Treatments Safety glasses can have tinted lenses or anti-glare protection for daylight or very bright light uses. Special coatings can prevent fogging of lenses.

ROGER The FRAMES Safety frames are strong and are heat resistant. Different frame materials are available for different applications. For example, plastic frames are available for use when working around electricity.

ROGER Accessorize Safety glasses may be accessorized with side shields – from the semi-side type that protects the side of the eye to the eye-cup size that provides multidirectional protection.

Goggles Fit closer to the eyes & provide better protection against splashes, fumes, vapors, and dust. Goggles provide additional eye protection. Because they fit closer to the eyes, they provide protection against splashes, fumes, vapors, and dust. Some goggles fit over regular glasses.

Safety glasses and goggles should be kept clean Maintenance Safety glasses and goggles should be kept clean Safety glasses and goggles should be kept clean and treated with the respect due a good pair of glasses. Replace damaged glasses or goggles immediately.

Face Shields Sometimes potential hazards – such as chemical splashes – require extra protection. A face shield over safety glasses or goggles can offer this extra protection.

Do not allow exposure to Chemicals CONTACT LENESE NOT PROTECTION Do not allow exposure to Chemicals Fumes Vapors Intense Heat Contact lenses should not be considered eye protection and may, in some cases, enhance the potential eye hazard. Contact lenses should not be worn when exposure to chemical fumes, vapors, splashes, or intense heat is possible.

Welding If you must work near a person doing welding, be sure not to look at the welding arc. There should be a welding screen to protect you from the light, radiation, or glare. The welder should be using a welding helmet with special absorptive lenses.

EYEWASHES Portable Fixed If you have en eyewash provided, be familiar with the location and operation. Know where to locate large amounts of water immediately to flush out any eye contamination you may experience. Remember, You must hold the eye open when flushing it with water. Portable Fixed

“Flush eyes for 15 minutes” 4/10 gallon per minute 4/10 times 15 minutes equals 6 gallons Remember – you must wash your eyes for 15 minutes in the event of most chemicals in your eyes. That translates into about 6 gallons of water. A 1 quart bottle is not sufficient if you get chemicals in your eyes.

First 15 Seconds In case of eye contamination, speed is extremely important. The first 15 seconds after eye contamination is critical.
