3 8 13 18 + 5 + 5 + 5 What is the rule for this number pattern? Rule: plus (adding) 5 The rule is the operation you are applying to each number and what you are counting by. 3 8 13 18 + 5 + 5 + 5 Go over this term orally with the class. You may want student to make a foldable for key vocabulary terms. The students should be instructed to write the term “RULE” on the outside of the flap, and then on the inside they will write what this term means. The students will also put a representation of the term (like the one on the PowerPoint slide). Each vocabulary term will be set up on the foldable in the same manner.

This is a Function table or In and Out table. The Rule is what you are adding or subtraction by Rule: +5 IN OUT 3 Think 3 + 5 8 Go over vocabulary term orally. If working with a foldable, have students record vocabulary term, meaning, and representation in the foldable. Apply the rule to the number written in the “IN” column. 13 8 If there is only a number in the “OUT” column and you need to find the “IN” number, then you must do the opposite of the rule. 13 18 18 Think 23 - 5 23

Look at the function table. What rule is this table using? Plus 3 Minus 3 Plus 1 Minus 1 IN OUT 1 4 4 7 7 10 10 13

Look at the function table. What rule is this table using? Plus 3 Minus 3 Plus 1 Minus 1 IN OUT 8 7 17 16 36 35 52 51

Plus 1 8 What is the rule? Apply the rule to fill in the blank IN OUT 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 +1

12 18 15 23 Look at the function table. What number should be used to complete this table? 12 18 15 23 IN OUT 33 30 26 23 15 10 7

25 19 15 30 Look at the function table. What number should be used to complete this table? 25 19 15 30 IN OUT 7 10 12 15 22 26 29

2 6 4 10 Look at the function table. What number should be used to complete this table? 2 6 4 10 IN OUT 2 0 6 8 6 10 8

Good Luck DO YOUR BEST ON THE TEST!
