Purpose Of Lesson Part 4 To teach students the basic internal computer system components(hard parts) and their functions. To teach students the different types of storage medias used with computers and their sizes.

Different Compact Discs There are half a dozens of different types Not all will play in all machines You need to know what to BUY!! WARNING THIS WILL BE THE HARDEST ASSIGNMENT IN THIS CLASS THIS YEAR!!!

CD COMPACT DISC HOLDS 700MB OF INFORMATION – IT CAN ONLY BE READ (READ ONLY)!!!! REPLACED TAPES AND RECORDS MADE LIKE A VINYL RECORD STAMPED OUT LAST LONGER

Can only play or write in Dual Layer Player and/or Writer!!! DVD (Dual Layer) (TWO HALF THICK DISCS GLUED TOGETHER) Also called Multi-Disc 8.5GB or 8,500MB Can only play or write in Dual Layer Player and/or Writer!!! DOESN’T LAST AS LONG AS REGULAR CD (SO BE CAREFUL ABOUT BACKING UP IMPORTANT DATA ON THEM!)

HYBRID COULD BE PART CD AND PART DVD COULD BE PART DVD AND PART DVDRW COULD POSSIBLY HOLD UP TO 4.7GB. BUT MOST DON’T USED FOR VIDEO GAMES AND SOFTWARE WHERE THE DISC HAS TO BE LEFT IN AND INFORMATION CAN BE SAVED! LIKE GAME PROGRESS!

HD & Blu-Ray HD DVD disc can hold UP TO 30 GB On February, 19 2008 Toshiba announced that HD DVD format would be discontinued. (SO DON’T BUY IT!!!) Blu-Ray is now set to become the new High Definition DVD format. Can only play in Blu-Ray and/or Writer A TRIPLE LAYER Blu-Ray disc can store UP TO 128 GB – (128,000MB)

Blu-Ray Can be Read Only Stamped out lasts longest Can be burned just like CD’s and DVD’s but they don’t last as long. Can be Burnt Once Available in Readable Writeable Of Course the player and/or writer must match the Disc type just like with DVD’s and CD’s.

Blu-Ray Can be a single layer 25 GB Can be a dual layer 50 GB IT IS ALSO MADE IN TRIPLE LAYER WITH A 100 GB SIZE A 128 GB QUAD LAYER is now available. Working on next gen already (Rumored to have a 200 GB size

Blu-Ray OTHER SIZES AND NEW SIZES Can be a Blu-Ray mini disc Mini single layer 7.8 GB Mini Dual layer 15.6 GB Can also be made Multilayer Called 3XL 3 layers with 100 GB Also, can be Multilayer Called 4XL with 4 layers and 128 GB A 200 GB & IN RW IS IN THE WORKS!
