Elementary Field Trip To Manhattan Academy’s Elementary Field Trip To The Pilgrim Who’s going? All MA Elementary School students and parents are invited to join Ms. Miller, Ms. Stratton, and Ms. Robley on this trip. When is it? Saturday, December 2, 2018 Cost? $15 per person (Cost includes tour and bus travel.) Times? Departure: The bus will leave Manhattan Academy’s Elementary Building on 12/2/17 at 8:00 a.m. Lunch: We will have a sack lunch at 12:00 after the tours. Return Time: About 2:00 p.m. at MA. Bring a sack lunch! FYI: The boat will not sail or leave the harbor. It will be at the dock during our tour. Details: In 1825, Richard Henry Dana, Jr. joined the crew of the Pilgrim sailing from Boston Harbor to Alta California. This was when California was still a part of Mexico! In his famous memoir, Two Years Before the Mast (which E4/5 will be reading this year), Dana described in detail what it was like to live and work as a sailor aboard a merchant vessel and to trade with the people of Alta California. The Pilgrim currently docked at Dana Point’s Harbor is a replica of the original Pilgrim. According to the website, students and families will “Sing sea chanteys, listen to nautical lore, [and] help raise sail” as they are led by a team of docents dressed in period costumes. What do I do? Write a check for the total cost of your family that will be attending. Make it payable to Manhattan Academy. The cost is $15 per person. Fill out and sign the “Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver for All Participants” form. One form is needed for each individual going on the tour. Even adults need to turn in a form. (Program Name is Pilgrim Tour. Program Date is 12/2/17.) Have your child turn in the form and the check to Ms. Key or Ms. Miller. The due date is Monday, September 18, 2017.
