History Learning Journey Who where the Mayans and what did we learn from them? 3) Who were the Mayans and where did they live? - We will watch a video on the Mayans. - Locate Mayan settlements on a map. - Create our own maps. - Research and create a timeline of Mayan key events. - Compare the environments of the different Mayan settlements. 4)What evidence do we have that the Mayans were an advanced civilisation? Create a Mayan museum in the classroom. Children will visit the museum and explore the information and artefacts. Children to write reports on Mayan society and daily life. 2)Can I devise historical questions about ancient civilisations? -Children will research ancient civilisations around at the same time as the Mayans. They will create their own questions about the ancient civilisations and use a range of books and websites to answer their own questions . 5) What do we know of the rituals carried out by the Mayan civilisations? - Children will explore the different rituals held by the Mayan society. - Children will choose one ritual to write an explanation text for. - We will hold a debate based on these rituals. 1)Can I understand the chronology of British, Local and world history? Children will explore the different ancient civilisations dating back to the ancient Sumer (5000BC). They will complete a practical time line activity and record their findings on a timeline of their own. 6)What caused the mayan civilisation to disappear? Children will explore different theories for the collapse of the Mayan civilisation. - Children will create film trailers for a film based on these events.
