Presentation transcript:

T.C. Knapp Elementary Mr. Boggs’ 3rd Grade Class Week of October 6, 2014 Dear Families, The fall Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) in reading is this Tuesday. Please make sure that your child gets plenty of rest on Monday night and eats a well-balanced breakfast on Tuesday morning. The students have been working extremely hard and I am excited to see how well they perform! Sincerely, Mr. Boggs Reading On Wednesday, we will begin a new story in reading entitled, Pop’s Bridge. This story will carry us into next week. Please check your child’s planner on Wednesday for new vocabulary words found within the story. We will focus on the skill of comparing and contrasting as well as the long /o/ sound. Spelling A new spelling list will be sent home on Wednesday for Lesson 4. Please study these new words with your child throughout the week. Math: We will move into Chapter 4 (Subtraction up to 10,000) on Wednesday of this week. The students will be asked to subtract numbers up to 10,000. The students will also engage in non-regrouping and regrouping problems related to subtraction. Lastly, the students will be asked to use PALS (Problem, Answer, Label, Statement) and known bossy words (difference, how many more) to complete various word problems. Science: We will begin our unit on habitats this week as the students will learn that organisms have certain physical and behavioral characteristics that allow them to survive in their habitat. Next week, the students will engage in hands-on and minds-on experiments that will allow them to take on the roles of different birds in various habitats.
