Melting When a substance changes from a solid to a liquid.
Boiling Gas Liquid When a substance changes from a liquid to a gas.
Reduction To take away. For example, heat.
Freezing When a substance changes from a liquid to a solid.
Condensation The process by which a gas changes to a liquid.
Physical Property A characteristic or trait of a substance that can be observed, measured or changed without changing the substance itself.
States of Matter Different forms of matter: Solid (Ice) Gas (Steam) Liquid (Water)
Mass The amount of matter something contains. Measured with a balance.
Volume The amount of SPACE that matter takes up. Measured with a graduated cylinder or a beaker.
Density A property of matter that compares the amount of matter an object has to the space it takes up.
Buoyancy The tendency of an object to float in a liquid.
Solution A mixture in which the particles of two different kinds of matter mix together evenly so that you cannot tell them two apart.
Mixture A combination of two or more substances that do not form a new substance.
Dissolve When particles of a substance break down into smaller pieces forming a solution with another substance.
