What important trade route was significant in the exchange of culture and goods between East Asia and Europe? SILK ROAD

What religion was introduced to China by means of the Silk Road? Buddhism

What is a cultural hearth? The place where aspects of a group’s culture begins is a cultural hearth.

What are monsoons? What does the summer monsoon bring? Seasonal wind that carries moist air from the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean to East Asia. Summer monsoons affect the southeastern region, bringing in moisture and contributing to flooding.

What is the “Ring of Fire”? An area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific.

What problems are China experiencing because of the rapid population and urbanization increase? Need for greater access to fresh water Increased pollution China has the world’s highest number of annual deaths triggered by air pollution

How does China feel about Taiwan? The political status of Taiwan is disputed because it is claimed by the People's Republic of China, who considers itself the successor state to the Republic of China.

How does Taiwan feel about China? The United States is one of the main allies of Taiwan and, since the Taiwan Relations Act passed in 1979, the United States has sold arms and provided military training to the Republic of China Armed Forces.

How has Japan adapted to their environment? By building seawalls to protect themselves from flooding caused by tsunamis.

On March 11, 2011, Japan suffered a major earthquake and was struck by a tsunami which led to what kind of accident? The earthquake of 9 magnitude and the tsunami which struck on March 11, 2011 resulted in the meltdown of the nuclear plant which was run by Tokyo Electric Power Co. The massive release of radioactivity into the environment triggered a series of blasts and fires.
