Evolution

History Lots of people found evidence of evolution throughout the 1700s-1800s The first person to publish their theory was Charles Darwin in “On the Origin of Species” in 1859

The Origin of Species What was it about? He wrote about how different animals changed over time in order to fit their environment Why do you think animals might change over time?

Evolution is a theory What is a theory?

Theory A theory is the most well proven form of a scientific explanation It must be tested many times and cannot be false in any test

What is evolution? Evolution explains why animals and other living things are so good at surviving in their environments Like what Charles Darwin said, this means that they adapt to their environments

How does it work? Evolution works through natural selection Natural selection says that some individuals are better at surviving Their traits will be carried on for future generations because they are desirable for their environments

Why is evolution important? Evolution says that if we go back far enough, all things are related

ACTIVITY Today we will be making up animals that have been adapted to a certain environment!
