Organic and biochemistry Reaction of the alkane halogenation. Combustion. Assistance Lecturer Amjad Ahmed Jumaa

Reactions of alkanes 1- Halogenations. Look at the following general reaction:

Example: Other example : The reaction of isopantane with chlorine gas ( at 200-400C°) will yield a mixture of (2-chloro-2-methyl-butane) Which is the main product: (CH3)2CHCH2CH3 + Cl2 / 200-400C° (CH3)C(Cl)CH2CH3 + (CH3)2CHCH2CH2Cl

Problem: for the following alkanes write their reactions with the chlorine gas? Determine the product of highly percentage? 1- Propane. 2- n-Butane Solution:

Follow problem: Determine the names of mixture of halo alkanes when 2-methyl hexane treatment with chlorine gas under light and 25º? B) Determine the names of the products of the alkyl bromide when 3-bromo-heptane treatment with chlorine gas at room temperature?

2-combustion. For the following reaction: Example: the combustion of normal pentane in the excess of the oxygen

Follow example: write the balanced equation for the combustion of 2-methyl butane with the oxygen? And predict the sign of the change in the enthalpy? Write the balanced equation for the combustion of ( 2 mole ) of pentane with the oxygen ? And explain why the sign of the enthalpy is negative ?
