Electric Current Aims: Build series and parallel circuits Measure the current using an ammeter at various points

What is electric current..?

What is electric current..? The flow of electric charges. The more charges that are passing a point in a certain time, the higher the current.

Draw a series circuit containing 3 resistors, 2 cells an ammeter to measure the current out of the battery and a switch. Repeat for parallel, 3 resistors.

Task 1 - series Using the resistors provided, build 2/3 different series circuits. Measure the current at various points by placing the ammeter into different positions. Draw the circuit and record the values.

What can we see from the results? Current leaving the battery is the same as the current entering the battery. The current is not ‘used up.’

Task 2 - parallel

What can we see from the results? Current into the battery is the same as the current leaving the battery. The current ‘splits’ at the junctions.

Kirchhoff’s First Law “At any junction, the sum of the currents flowing into the junction is equal to the sum of the currents flowing out of the junction.” Gustav Kirchhoff

Work out the values on these ammeters
