Presentation transcript:

Stewardship Practice: Where & How? Home Energy Use: The vast majority of our energy is currently produced using fossil fuels. Because these are non-renewable resources, they represent a prime area for asking questions about what might constitute wise stewardship. © 2017 www.clipart.com. Used by permission.

Stewardship Practice: Where & How? Home Water Use: Our water use impacts multiple parts of the environment: The amount of water available to farmers and others The quality of water returning to the environment after we use it The energy and cost used to clean and transport the water to us © 2017 www.clipart.com. Used by permission.

Stewardship Practice: Where & How? Waste Output: Reducing our waste output can serve two important purposes: It cuts down on the amount of land needed to store our waste. Much of our waste can serve other purposes, becoming part of a sustainable practice of reusing materials. © 2017 www.clipart.com. Used by permission.

Stewardship Practice: Where & How? Before researching and writing survey questions related to your topic, your group must write an introduction to your survey that can be read to survey-takers that explains: What the survey is for Why it matters How it relates to your beliefs about stewardship Each student should create 8 questions about your group’s topic; your team will combine the 3 sets of questions to form a 24-question survey. Of the 8 questions you generate, at least 4 must be something that you can accomplish yourself (with your existing resources; meaning no significant money is required for purchases). Along with each question, provide a suggestion for improvement. Research your topic online, and select or create questions that relate to common household practices in your area of the world. Note: search term suggestions: "ways to save energy at home” or “ways to reduce waste”

Stewardship Practice: Where & How? Sample survey question and suggestion: Topic Area: Home Energy Use Question #1: Do you have attic insulation, and if so, do you know its rating? Suggestion: Install attic insulation rated R-30, and seal any attic leaks to reduce high home cooling costs. You’ll save money each month and could qualify for a rebate of $75 or more from your energy company. © 2017 www.clipart.com. Used by permission.
