8th-Grade Math In this course, we will focus on five strands of mathematics, including The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Students will apply the eight mathematical practices to solve problems, including real-world,  using a variety of different methods and be able to explain their thinking.

Mathematical Practices 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Curriculum Our math resource for this year will be Eureka Math (formerly Engage NY). Students will be provided with materials to be kept in their 3-ring binder. You can also visit my website to download materials, find helpful websites and view weekly assignments.

Daily Routine 1. Warm up 2. Homework review 3. Daily lesson 4. Practice problems / Exit ticket 5. Assign homework

Homework Homework will typically be assigned on a nightly basis. The purpose of homework is to practice the skills learned in class. Students are expected to show their work on all problems.

Grading Scale 70% Tests 25% Classwork 5% Homework
