Main goals generating a broad understanding of the CDM in the developing countries developing institutional capability and human capacity of the developing countries to fully participate as equal partners with developed countries in the formulation and implementation of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
Participating Countries three countries each from four regions Asia: Cambodia, the Philippines, Viet Nam Latin America: Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala Middle East & North Africa: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco Sub-Saharan Africa: Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Uganda
Main Tasks sensitizing government supports for the CDM developing capacity of policy makers establishing institutional framework for the CDM projects strengthening capabilities of the public and private sectors creating a pipeline of the CDM projects
Implementation Strategy UCCEE together with Regional Centres of Excellence and national institutions Regional centers Asia: AIT LA: IDEE ME & NA: APEX SSA: EDRC & ENDA By means of studies, surveys, training courses, workshops, seminars, consultations, development of training materials and information dissemination.
Main Activities in Phase I Completing national work plans A national workshop in each country and a regional workshop in each region were conducted to finish work plans. “Introduction to the CDM” Translation into local languages: French, Arabic, Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean
Current Status Phase I is finishing: 11 workplans completed and 1 will be ready soon Starting phase II A CDM information booklet and a project fact sheet completed Analytical work under development: CDM general guidance, legal issue, financial issue, institutional issue and SD impact Consultations for collaboration with other organizations such as the World Bank, UNIDO, UNDP Advisory group invited (NL, WB, UNIDO, UNDP, WBCSD,….)
